Our take
Shortlist it when over-ear noise cancelling is a regular need. Try the fit with your glasses and normal listening setup before paying for features you may rarely use.
The moment that matters
Moving from a busy train to a shared office can leave you craving one uninterrupted album. The WH-1000XM6 is worth considering if those interruptions are a daily frustration. The useful question is whether you need its features often enough to justify the purchase, rather than whether every feature sounds impressive.
What the features can change
Sony describes noise cancelling and multipoint connectivity on its product pages. Multipoint means a headset can connect to more than one device; it does not mean every source plays at once. Our interpretation: this is worth investigating if calls on your phone interrupt work on a laptop. Test that exact handover with the devices and apps you use. Official product page
What a spec sheet cannot settle
A headband can seem fine for a moment and become distracting later. Wear your usual glasses for a fit check, move your head, and notice pressure around the ears. We have not measured comfort, isolation, or sound quality on this model. The sensible decision is to keep those questions open rather than turn manufacturer descriptions into personal impressions.
Pay for a problem you actually have
Before upgrading, write down one repeated annoyance with your current headphones. If the answer is only that a newer model exists, waiting may feel better than spending. If it is repeated interruption, check whether the new pair addresses that specific use case. Also check how the case fits beside the things you already carry.
A useful fit-check routine
Use a familiar song at a comfortable volume, then try a short call and the controls. Ask about the seller’s trial and return conditions before opening the box. Active noise cancelling is a feature to assess in context, not a promise that every surrounding sound will disappear.
